Why We’re Moving to Made to Order at Taylor Yates

At Taylor Yates, we’ve always believed that less is more. Our brand was built on the principles of slow fashion, responsible design, and purposeful luxury. As we continue to evolve, we’ve decided to take an important next step: moving towards a made-to-order production model.

This decision reflects our commitment to doing things differently, not for the sake of novelty, but because we believe it’s the most responsible and thoughtful way to build a business that lasts.

Flexibility for Us and for You

As a small, independent brand, one of our greatest strengths is our flexibility. We’re not bound by mass production schedules or overstocked warehouses. By shifting to made-to-order, we can use this flexibility to our advantage and yours.

This model allows us to better meet the individual needs of our customers. Whether it’s an extra internal pocket, a longer strap, or even subtle adjustments to how the bag functions, we can now offer personalisation in a way that wouldn’t be possible through traditional production runs.

Our team works closely with our makers, so custom changes are handled with care and intention, resulting in a bag that’s not only beautifully made, but truly yours.

A More Sustainable Way Forward

From the very beginning, sustainability has been at the heart of Taylor Yates. It informs the way we source materials, the suppliers we work with, and the way we design our products. Moving to made-to-order aligns perfectly with that commitment.

Instead of forecasting demand and hoping we get it right, we will now only make a product when it already has a home. This reduces the risk of overproduction - one of the fashion industry’s biggest sources of waste - and helps us minimise unnecessary use of materials, energy, and time.

Put simply: if it’s not needed, we won’t make it.

A Better Way to Test and Create

Made-to-order also allows us to be more creative without the fear of waste. We can now test new colours, styles, and ideas on a smaller scale, learning directly from your feedback without committing to large quantities.

If a new material or design doesn’t resonate, we haven’t created surplus stock with no place to go. And if it does, we know we’re producing something that has real value to our customers.

This agility helps us stay true to our design philosophy: timeless, functional products with purpose.

Redefining Luxury, Responsibly

To us, luxury isn’t about excess, it’s about care, craftsmanship, and conscious choices. By moving to a made-to-order model, we’re reaffirming our belief that fashion can be more thoughtful, more personal, and more sustainable.

We’re proud to be a small brand making big decisions that reflect our values. And we’re grateful to have a community of customers who understand the beauty in slowing down, making intentionally, and buying better.

Thank you for growing with us.
